A Daughter Becomes A Mother

This mother’s day is super special for Inion N. Mathair. This Irish trifecta has two generations of mothers that inspire me (Inion), that have mentored me and continue to do so.

My grandmother, Lavinia Mallory, is our business manager, our support system, the one that lifts us up and the heart and soul of Inion N. Mathair. She is a constant support system that is always there for us no matter for what, when or where. There is strength in her silence, pride in her gentle smile and stern wisdom in her soft voice. No one loves like my Nana and she has taught me to love unabashedly and embrace my heart and every twingey beautiful feeling that bursts forth from it. She is the backbone to our entire family and her positivity shines through our cynical pessimism. Nana is our heart and soul.

My mother, Natalie Perrone (Mathair), is my other half, my best friend and my writing partner. She is the strength of Inion N. Mathair. She is constantly driving me to do reach my full potential and to be independent and secure within myself… while doing everything she can for me so I don’t have to. 😉 There is vulnerability in her confidence, softness in her wise eyes and fervor in every tight embrace. No one has strength like my mother and she has inspired me to be the pinnacle of resilience and embrace every ounce of that fighting Irish spirit and feminine power within me. She is the force to be reckoned with in our family and her fire and passion shines through our self-doubt and insecurities.

And it’s these reasons that make this year the most special mother’s day for me. On May 2, 2018 at 10:59 pm, I gave birth to the fourth generation of Inion N. Mathair. Her name is Rowan Belle Perrone-Gilhaus and she is the most perfect thing her father and I have ever done in our lives. My heart is full and my soul is light, but I have a daunting task ahead of me. I am now somebody’s Mathair and I only hope, wish and pray that I can be a quarter of what my Nana and my mother were and still are for me. I am honored that Rowan is growing up with so many strong, loving women around her on my side and her father’s and it’s in these women that I find my strength, my love, my inspiration, but it’s in my daughter’s bright blue eyes that I have found my motherhood. Happy mother’s day to you all and know that you are beautiful, strong, and loved.
